When I Prayed

When I prayed for a boon,
I was granted a curse, and it was soon.
When I prayed for flowers,
I was granted a stem of thorns, unclear.

When I prayed for sunshine,
I was granted darkness, and it was fine.
When I prayed for breeze,
I was granted a tornado and was on my knees.

When I prayed for rain,
I was granted a storm, and it was a pain.
When I prayed for warmth,
I was granted a volcano, a wrath.

When I prayed for happiness,
I was granted challenges with stress.
When I prayed for love,
I was granted hatred, didn’t know the move.

And when I finally prayed for death,
I was granted you, on this earth.
Only to realise, to enjoy the former.
I had to suffer all the later.

From curses to the thorns,
The darkness to the tornado and the storms,
To the volcano, life challenges with hatred,
All that moved me close to my death bed.
