I felt the distance between us.
The quiet space she maintained
Even when she was inches away.
I did not love her as she was,
But with my own thoughts of her.
The memories I built alone,
Became my love and care, she had no part in it.
The her I know is in the past,
She has no place in my present or future.
It was never truly her, only the moments,
That brings me both comfort and chaos.
I once thought she hurt me;
but in truth, she awakened me.
I thought she broke me,
But she only opened what was within.
She awakened the parts that were dead,
Made me who I am now, clear and focussed.
She will never witness the new me,
Yet my gratitude will forever remain.
